Benefits - Disability Living Allowance
What is it?
Disability Living Allowance is a tax-free payment paid to people
under the age of 65 who need help with personal care needs or have
mobility problems because of an illness or disability. You should
be eligible to claim this benefit whether you live alone or with
someone else because of an illness or disability.

Who is eligible?
You will have to have been in need of help or have mobility
problems for three months before you can claim and they should be
expected to continue for six months or more.
- You have a physical or mental disability or both.
- Your disability is severe enough to need help caring for
yourself or you have walking difficulties or both
How much will I get?
The rate paid depends on the person’s care and mobility
requirements. Disability Living Allowance is paid in two
parts:
- Care Component (Low £18.95, Middle £47.80 & High £71.40 per
week)
- Mobility Component (Low £18.95 & High £49.85 per
week)
A person can be eligible for one of the components or both.
If your claim for Disability Living Allowance is accepted then,
you may get extra money paid for:
- Income Support
- Income-based Job Seekers Allowance
- Income-based Employment Support Allowance
- Pension Credit
- Housing and Council Tax Benefit
- Health Benefits
Depending on the level of Disability Living Allowance you may be
entitled to the disability element of:
- Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit
- Carer Allowance
- Blue Badge
- Car Tax Credit Exemption
