About Pick ‘n’ party
Fed up with
litter in your neighbourhood?
Like to make your area a better place to live?
Now’s your big chance to help your community make a
difference.
The “Big Tidy Up” is
being run by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign. It aims to help
communities get together to clean up their area.
RBH is supporting this campaign with our new “Pick ‘n’ Party”
project which we are running in partnership with Rochdale Council’s
Environmental Management Team and the Green volunteers.
What’s it all about?
We want community groups* on Council estates managed by Rochdale
Boroughwide Housing (RBH) to let us know if there is somewhere on
their estate that they think needs a tidy up. We can help
groups to organise and promote a clean up activity and encourage
people living in the community to join in the fun on the
day.
RBH staff will be there to support the communities during the
litter pick and RBH will also reward everyone who has joined in by
funding a party at the end of the activity up to the amount of £100
(plus any room hire charge).
This is a great chance to get together, have some fun and make a
real difference to the local community. If your group would
like your area to be considered please email us. You will then
be asked to complete a simple nomination form to give us some basic
information about when and where you would like to do your tidy
up.
* Community groups means any group of volunteers who live and/or
work on a Council estate managed by Rochdale Boroughwide
Housing. You may be just a group of neighbours or an
officially recognised group such as a Tenants and Residents
Association.

Neighbours Day at Dalton Road, Middleton
Dalton Road gets a lick of paint and a good tidy!
Rachel Lartey (tenant) said, “The caretakers were fantastic,
they helped us to erect three gazebo’s to protect the buffet lunch
from the rain and made frequent trips to the tip with the rubbish
brought out from people’s gardens.”
“It was amazing to see how many people came out of their houses to
join in – teenagers helped those who were less able to move rubbish
and paint fences, mums with prams picked litter and men and women
helped the caretakers loading the van with rubbish. On bank holiday
Monday it was great to see people painting their own or their
neighbour’s fence. It has brought the community together.”
If you would like to get involved in any of the above events or
would like us to help you plan one of your own please email or telephone Ruth
Sillence (Communities First Co-ordinator) on 01706 651425.
