Tribute to Roy Thompson June 22, 2010, 03:07:31 PM
|
Long-serving RBH Board member and friend, Roy Thompson, died last Friday (18th June) at his home in Moorclose, Middleton.
Roy, a former lorry driver, was elected by Middleton council tenants to join us in 2006 and served until earlier this year.
Despite his failing health, Roy continued to attend Board meetings for as long as he could. He was a strong advocate of tenants’ rights and served on many committees and working groups within the company, which looked at improving services for its customers.
Noel Chambers, Board Chair said, “It was a delight to have worked alongside Roy, albeit it for such a short time. He welcomed me to the Board and obviously shared our vision to deliver excellent services to our tenants. We will certainly miss his input at our meetings.“
Former Board Chair, Ian Agnew added, “I was personally saddened to hear of Roy’s death. He worked tirelessly for RBH, not only within the organisation, but as our representative on external groups such as GM Procure, which helped ensure value for money was at the heart of our operations. Above all, Roy was a gentleman, who always had a smile on his face. His volunteering spirit was an example to us all and the borough has lost a true community activist and a good man.”
Roy is survived by his wife Sheila and children.
I am sure that everyone here who knew Roy and came into contact with him will understand just how valued he was amongst us, he will undoubtedly be sorely missed but the moments spent with him will most definitely be remembered as treasured ones.
