Let’s do Lunch
May 07, 2010, 09:39:02 AM

On the 18th July lunch won’t just be for the ladies because we’re supporting a nationwide initiative to bring whole communities together for the occasion.

You may already have heard of The Big Lunch. But, if not, it’s a national initiative spearheaded by the Eden Project that aims to encourage communities to come together in a social environment and get to know their neighbours. Or, as the Eden Project say, it ‘puts Champagne in your veins’.

The Big Lunch organisers explain, “The shared enjoyment of eating together, laughter, play, music and conversation bring us together and for all the fact that we are so fabulously different in our outlook and experience on many things, we know a simple truth - together we are strong. Wouldn't it be great if for just one day we remind ourselves about all that is good about us and bring about a moment that ignites a spark?”

From a simple lunch to a street party the day is about getting together with your neighbours and we want to support any of our tenants’ groups that want to join in by donating up to £100 to contribute towards the food and drinks.

Communities First Coordinator, Ruth Sillence, said: “It’s always good to come together with your neighbours but sadly it’s surprising how many of us don’t know the people living just a few doors away. We want to give our support to this event and make sure that all the ‘lunches’ are as inclusive as possible. We’re asking people to have a think about how they can encourage adults, young people and children from their area to join in.”

We pledge to lend our support by; providing up to £100 per group via Communities First funding, designing and printing posters for displaying around the local area, helping to devise ‘community’ focused activity sheets, providing RBH promotional giveaway items and generally lending assistance where we can.

“If you would like to host a Big Lunch event in your area please give me a call on 01706 651425 for a chat about what you’d like to do on the day,” added Ruth.
