Gas Safety Week
Every year thousands of people across the UK are diagnosed with
carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, which can be caused by unsafe
central heating systems, gas cookers or gas fires.
Gas Safety Week which takes place from 10th - 16th
September 2012 aims to raise awareness of gas safety and
the importance of taking care of your gas appliances.
RBH carries out annual gas safety checks in all properties. We
will write to you to let you know when an RBH Registered Engineer
will be visiting your home. Letting an engineer into your home to
carry out these checks is very important for your safety and is a
condition of your tenancy agreement.
All RBH Gas Engineers are legal and qualified to work on
gas. They will show you their RBH ID Card and their Gas Safe
Make sure that you only use a Registered Engineer for any gas
work and check with your Neighborhood Housing Officer before
carrying out any gas alteration work in your home as badly fitted
and poorly serviced appliances can cause gas leaks, fires,
explosions as well as carbon monoxide poisoning.
Follow these tips to keep you and your family
- make sure you let RBH Engineers into your home to carry out the
annual gas safety check every 12 months
- install an audible
carbon monoxide alarm
- look out for warning signs that your gas appliances aren’t
working correctly e.g. lazy yellow or orange
flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks on
or around the appliance and too much condensation in the room.
