Family fun with the new Pioneers
Children and families are looking forward
to a co-operative fun time. Local co-operatives are providing
family friendly activities on Thursday 25th October, 10.30-3.30pm,
at Touchstones. There will be stalls, displays, samples, quizzes
and games throughout the day to celebrate the International Year of
Co-operatives. The ‘Meet the new Pioneers’ event will be opened by
the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Peter Rush. It is free and there is no
need to book. People can just drop in at any time and stay as long
as they want.
Social Enterprise and Co-operative Forum
Chair, Rick Walker explained: ‘We are putting on this event for the
town’s co-operatives to show people what they do. Co-operatives in
Rochdale are working with young people and communities, providing
housing, making and catering, selling Fairtrade products, providing
affordable loans, and enabling people to be creative.
‘Co-operatives are owned by their
Members and we want people to find out how they can get involved.
People benefit from working together, helping to make decisions,
and sharing the rewards.
‘All co-operatives care for the community
and, together, make Rochdale a better place.
‘The Co-operative Group will have a stand
and co-operative business advice will be available. Wardle and
Smallbridge History Group’s ‘Pennine Village Co-ops’ exhibition
will be on display, and Touchstones Writing Group will be
presenting their ‘Spirit of Co-operation’ compilation.
‘Link4Life has helped organise the event
and it is funded by the Co-operative Area Committee.
‘This is a great opportunity to celebrate,
have some fun, and find out why co-operatives are good for
everyone’.
