Dalton Roadgardens
get a face lift
Green-fingered residents on Dalton Road got
together recently for a community planting event, organised by
RBH.
The inspiration for the day came from a
request by local resident, Rachel Lartey, to the Middleton Area
Panel for a one off tenant participation grant for £449 to buy
shrubs to brighten up her street. Her idea came on the back
of a successful venture with RBH last year, when householders
cleared their gardens, painted their fences and threw a community
party at the end of the day.
RBH staff brought lilac palibin bushes in the
morning for local people to collect and plant in their gardens.
“There was a real buzz at the event, said
Customer Involvement Officer, Helen Kelsall, “and hopefully there
will be more this Summer as the lilacs should encourage bees and
butterflies, as well as being highly scented.”
Loretta Osunkwo said “My daughters were very
excited about today and it was great to get people chatting
together.”
Neighbour Lurline Sullivan, who helped
organise the day agreed. She said, “It was a really good way of
helping people get to know their neighbours as they came out onto
the road to join in the planting. It would be nice to do more
events like this. It’s really helped foster community spirit.”
