What does it mean to be a secure tenant?

Signing a secure tenancy agreement makes you a secure tenant of the council with legal rights and responsibilities. It means you can keep your home as long as you like unless a court agrees that there is a legal reason for us to take possession of the property.

As a secure tenant you have a legal right to stay in your home as long as you keep to the conditions of the tenancy. We have set out these conditions in your tenancy agreement, which you sign at the start of your tenancy. It contains your rights and responsibilities as a tenant and our rights and responsibilities as a landlord.
