Ways to have your say - Participation
We think it is important that all tenants have the opportunity to get
involved in and influence the decision making. we offer a number of
ways in which you can do this.
Tenants and residents associations
Tenants and residents associations (TRAs) are
made up of local volunteers who represent tenants, leaseholders and
residents living in their neighbourhoods. They are a vital part of the
participation and decision making process.
This is probably the most traditional way of getting involved in your
local area. TRAs are formally constituted groups that represent a particular
area, perhaps a block, street or whole estate. each group has a committee
made up of a chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer and committee members
drawn from the local community.
The association works closely with local residents, Rochdale Boroughwide
Housing and Rochdale Council to ensure that residents views in their
neighbourhood are fully represented and that tenants are involved in
decisions which affect them.
Rochdale Boroughwide Housing provides a wide variety of support to
tenants and residents association. if you are interested in setting
up a group in your area you can contact the Tenant Participation Unit
on (01706) 273822.
Area Panels
We try to make decisions on local issues at a
local level. To do this we have four area panels in Heywood Middleton,
Pennines and Rochdale.
The Area Panels held their inaugural meetings in November 2007 and further meetings have been arranged for February 2008.
Terms of reference for these panels are being agreed with the Council and RoFTRA

Board of directors and main board
A board of directors manages Rochdale Boroughwide
Housing. The board of directors is made up of thirteen members - six
tenants, four councillors and three independents.
The role of the board is to direct the work of the organisation. This
includes the organisations strategic direction, delivering its committments
under the management agreement, approving overall expenditure and approving
company policies.
Five of the six tenant members are elected from the five areas - Heywood,
Middleton, Pennines, Rochdale North and Rochdale South.
each year two tenants stand down and an election is held to elect new
board members. anyone can stand for election tot he main board as long
as they are a tenant in the area they are standing for election and
they are nominated by two other people living in their area.
for more information on standing as a tenant board member or attending
a main board meeting please contact Moira Richardson on (01706) 273811.
