Moving to another area

The Homeswapper service allows RBH tenants to swap homes with tenants living anywhere else in the country.

Once registered, the scheme will search to find you suitable 'matches' in your chosen area.  and as well as being notified of possible matches by email and text your details will appear on national swap lists.

If you would like to switch to swap, log onto the Homeswapper website at www.Homeswapper.co.uk and start planning your future move today.

Help for homeless people

If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness the Council will be able to offer you help and advice. They may also be able to offer you temporary accommodation (subject to an assessment).

Contact the homelessness team at The Homeless Advise Centre, Whitworth Road Depot, Haynes Street, Rochdale on 0845 602 4995 for more information and to make an appointment.

The centre is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - 9:30am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 4:00pm. Thursday 1:30pm to 4:00pm only.

Housing for people with disabilities

Some tenants have difficulties in their current properties because of disabilities. It is our policy to carry out adaptations to properties for disabled tenants, provided enough money is available. Adaptations can include:

•  Ramps for wheelchair access

•  Bath handrails

•  Showers

•  Wider door spaces

•  Extensions to provide bedroom or bathroom facilities on the ground floor

•  Vertical lifts or stair lifts

Some purpose built properties for disabled people are also available.

If you are experiencing problems with your property because of a disability and feel that your property needs adapting, please contact your local housing office.

You will then be visited by an Occupational Therapist from the Social Services Department. They will look at your home to see if it can be adapted to suit your needs. If your home cannot be adapted we will try and provide you with a suitable new home.

For further information please contact the Council's Special Housing Needs Team on (01706) 864016
