Improvements and alterations

You can make improvements to you home, for example, installing central heating, fitting a bathroom suite or shower, removing walls inside, laying a driveway, but you will need our written permission first. If you fit a laminate flooring it could be damaged or cause problems if we need to lift the floorboards at anytime e.g. to rewire tour home. You need to be a secure tenant. Any improvements you make will not affect your rent.

We will only refuse you permission to carry out improvements if there is a good reason. For example, we may refuse if it would affect the safety of your home or involve us in extra expense.

You must not carry out any work without written permission. If you do not ask for permission you may be recharged the cost of reinstating the property.

As long as you have our permission for the improvements and carry them out satisfactorily, you may be entitled to a payment when you leave your home. For more information please contact the local housing office
