Who are the Equality Team?

The Equality Team helps to ensure that all members of the community have equal access to and continued enjoyment of all housing services.

The team is made up of two multi-lingual Senior Housing Equality officers, Shaukat Ali and Nasir Zubair

Shaukat Ali speaks English, Urdu and Bangla

Nasir Zubair speaks English, Urdu, Punjabi and Mirpuri

Access to interpreters in other languages can be arranged through the Equality Team or at any housing office

What do they do?

Shaukat and Nasir provide provide advice, information, help and support to:

a. People who are considering renting a home:

• From the Council or a Housing Association through Rochdale Boroughwide Housing's (RBH's) Home Choice system.
• From a private landlord
• From other housing providers
• Assisting with housing related benefits and access to housing grants.

b. People who have applied to rent a home through RBH's Home Choice system:

• Carrying out Asylum and Immigration checks.  Where necessary, applicants will be invited to attend an asylum and immigration interview or a habitual residency test before their application can be processed.
• If you are considering moving to a different estate we will be happy to show you around the area and provide information about the services and facilities available locally.
• Accompany applicants to view properties.

c. Council tenants:

• Tenancy conditions and your rights.
• Neighbour nuisance and harassment.
• Post-tenancy support services such as visiting new tenants and providing assistance to settle into their new home.
• Any other housing related service.
