Making changes to your tenancy We can change the terms of your tenancy agreement. If we plan on doing this we will send you a letter. This will let you know what the change is, how it will affect you and when it will start from. This letter will also tell you how to comment on the changes and give you at least four weeks to do so before the change happens. Can anyone inherit my tenancy when I die? If may be possible for members of your family to have your tenancy when you die. The terms for this is called 'succession'. A family member can take over your tenancy if they are: Your husband or wife living with you as a partner at the time of your death A partner living with you for more than 12 months before your death (we will need proof of this) A close family member living with you for more than 12 months before your death ( we will need proof of this) Please not that a tenancy can only be passed on in this way once. The person who takes over the tenancy will have all the rights of a secure tenant. We will only ask them to move if the property is specially adapted or is too large for their needs. Can I give my tenancy to some one else? If you no longer want to live in your home, we may, in some cases allow you to pass the tenancy to someone who would have 'succeeded'. This is known as an assignment. If you do find this is the case, you should contact your local housing office for help.
