Selling
your leasehold
This section tells you what you
need to do if you want to sell your leasehold.
What happens if I want
to sell my home?
You may be asked to provide information
for prospective purchasers about service charges etc. The Rent and Right
to Buy section will be able to provide this information.
You must tell us about the change
of ownership. At the time of the sale all outstanding service charge
payments must be settled. Solicitors acting for both parties should
ensure arrangements are in place for dealing with future payments of
bills for works that have already been carried out. They must ensure
that the borough solicitor is provided with the appropriate 'Notice
of Assignment' of the lease. Without this notice we are entitled to
assume that the property has not been sold and will continue to bill
you for the service charges.
If you bought you home under
the Right to Buy scheme and you are selling within the first three years
of ownership, you will have to repay some of the discount you were allowed
on the original sale.
