Environmental Schemes - Quick Wins
Creating Great Neighbourhoods
A partnership between Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council and local tenants has helped create a vision for a cleaner, greener and brighter Rochdale.
The project was established a year ago with funds of over £9 million set aside to deliver a range of schemes to improve the environment and quality of life on estates right across the borough. We have called the project "Creating Great Neighbourhoods".
10 - 28 Lyefield Walk
| Before:- The ten gardens to the front of these properties were unkempt and in poor condition. They looked very uninviting. |
After:- All the garden areas were flagged in concrete paving. The gardens now look in better condition and are much easier to maintain. |

Falinge Hill
After:- It would have been easy to get lost around this area of Falinge as previously the signage was very poor and could be confusing because some ground floors could be on one street whilst the first floor would be on another. The new steel signs that have been affixed to the side of the flats alleviate this problem because they are clear, brighter and easier to read.

Cartridge Street Bungalows, Heywood Henderson Street, Pennine View
Large cracks have been discovered on one of the brick
walls that protect the rear of these properties.
The wall was left very unstable so for health and safety reasons it will be replaced. McAlpines have been
contracted to carry out this work - rebuilding the wall
and erecting a new 1.6 metre railing. |
Tenants made repeated complaints about a resident obstructing the pathway with their vehicle This forced people to walk across the grass verge to reach the road and one elderly tenant fell while attempting to do this. It has been recommended that a galvanised and powder-coated steel rail is installed on both sides of the path to not only prevent vehicles from parking across the footpath but to also aid the footpath's use by elderly tenants. |
