For the fifth year running, Community Groups across the borough are invited to apply for grants to carry out a planting scheme which will improve the look of their estate. Any voluntary group with members who are council tenants or residents on a local Council estate can apply. Last year more than 20 grants were given across the borough, ranging from a few pounds for seeds to the full grant for larger-scale projects. Maybe you want to do a small planting scheme, perhaps to brighten up a communal seating area, or something more elaborate such as a children’s sensory garden for a mums and toddlers group – it’s up to you! “Dig it” grants are part of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing’s (RBH’s) Communities First scheme. The scheme aims to recognise and reward those who respect their local communities and to promote positive contributions by tenants and community groups on estates to improve community spirit. “Dig it “grants are supported by All in One Garden and Leisure (Middleton), Gordon Rigg Garden Centre (Rochdale), and Rochdale Council’s Environmental Management department incorporating Bowlee Garden Centre who will offer advice to potential applicants. If you want to find out more, call Ruth Sillence on tel: 01706 651425. You will then receive an application form and can be signposted to advisors if you need them. If you wish to view a form and print it out you can do so by clicking here. Alternatively you can complete an online application form here To view the poster click here.
