Communities First Awards 2009 6 amazing tenants have been recognised for putting their Communities First. Our Communities First Awards are an opportunity for us to highlight and celebrate the amazing work carried out by adults and young people who give up their own time, doing voluntary work to help others and benefit their community. This year we were delighted to present this award to 6 outstanding members of our local community. The award winners were announced at the RBH Celebration and Information Day on 3rd October with the awards being presented by Paul Rowen MP. Congratulations and thank you to all our award winners: Ann Makin from Cloverhall, Rochdale - “Ann has been working tirelessly as a volunteer for the last 2 years organising events and seeking funding for the Giant’s Foot Children and Youth Club. She works hard to help keep the children off the streets providing them with activities in a safe environment” Joan Turner from Brotherod - “Joan is a very active member Brotherod TRA . She organises day trips for young and old, fun days, luncheon and youth clubs. Joan has raised funds to equip the community centre and provide kits for the sports teams. As if this is not enough – this busy lady sits on committees and attends endless meetings for the benefit of the community” Sheila Acton from Syke, Rochdale - “Sheila recognised that the community had a lack of meeting places for people of all ages so through sheer hard work she rallied everyone round including the council and the Syke Community Base was opened. There is a wide range of activities for tenants and residents of all ages all run very professionally by one woman – Sheila. She is a true philanthropist and deserves recognition for her selfless work” Linda O'Rourke from Meadway, Rochdale - “Linda runs a youth club in Meadway catering for children between 8-13 years old. It is a safe environment where children who would not normally socialise together can meet. Linda has given her time up as a volunteer in various capacities over the years and her dedication and commitment has helped her local community" Alice Ward from Kirkholt, Rochdale - “Alice has been an excellent example to the young people Allan Stott from Moss Row, Rochdale - “He works so hard, going to the garden centre, making up hanging baskets and generally looking after the gardens outside. All the tenants, their families and friends always comment on how nice it looks outside and Alan asks for nothing in return.” |
