Environmental Steering Group

The £9.5million Creating Great Neighbourhoods (CGN) project, which is delivering a range of environmental improvement projects across the borough, is very much tenant led. There are 2 strands to the project each of which has its own governance structure. On the one hand there are the smaller Quick Win projects which may be undertaken anywhere in the borough and these are taken before the five Area Panels for approval and monitoring purposes. The Area Panels meet quarterly and usually the Quick Wins are a standing item on the agenda.

The larger-scale works carried out to the designated Priority Estates e.g. Kirklee, Falinge, Heady Hill, Pennine View and Hollin are overseen by the Environmental Steering Group (ESG). This body, which is made up of five tenant representatives (one from each Township) is responsible for the approval, implementation and monitoring of all the Priority Estates work and comprises Joan Turner (Rochdale North), Debbie Lord (Rochdale South), Keith Barker (Pennines), Sharon Worsley (Middleton) and Mary Kershaw (Heywood). They are supported by a range of officers who prepare reports, consult with stakeholders, arrange the work and monitor contracts, etc.

The ESG meets bi-monthly with the next meetings scheduled for 19th August, 14th October and 9th December. They will continue to meet until the CGN project is complete and this is likely to be 2012.
