Equality and Diversity Action Plan 2005/06

Extract from report to Main Board in March 2006 showing progress of key actions from the Equality & Diversity Action Plan 2005/06

  • Ensure all offices and community bases are DDA compliant - Survey, design and tender documentation for all sites is now complete. Works to Newbold Housing Office, Bentgate and Holt Community Bases on site and work has commenced.  Work to the remaining bases and Housing offices are to commence in the near future. Works to make sheltered schemes more compliant with the DDA requirements will be carried out in the next financial year.
  • Establish a Disability Working Group - 3 meetings held so far in different locations of the Borough.  Good attendance and key issues such as recruitment, adaptations, communications, are being considered.  Next meeting 13 April 2006 in Middleton
  • Expand Community Induction Project to work on new Estates - 33 BME Families now living on Bellshill estate.  Several BME families expressing interest to move on to Smallbridge estate. Bid to Connecting Communities Plus submitted to extend CIP for further 3 years.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Equality and Diversity staff training programme - Course being rolled out to all staff and Board members
  • 14% of Council tenancies to be held by BME tenants by 2011 - Agreed incremental target based on population figures – 6% for 2005/06 6.1% (1001) as at 30 January 2006
  • 275 BME lets - 206 as at 30 Dec 2005 – on course to achieve target
  • 3% recruitment of disabled applicants - 3.22% as at end of Dec 2005
  • 14% recruitment from BME community - 16.39% as at end of December 2005.  Low level of recruitment at moment due to several vacancies being held
  • Employ 6 Housing Trainees plus 3 Disability Trainees - 8 trainees appointed in total.  4 out of 8 trainees appointed are BME.  2 out of 8 trainees appointed are disabled.  ILM Adult Trainee in Craft Position Appointed
  • Employ 1 Management Trainee - To advertise position on Open Recruitment or University Sponsorship.
  • Job Evaluation Scheme - Full scheme now in place.  Job Evaluation interviews completed Dec 2005.  Regular reports to Staffing Sub-Committee on progress.
