RBH boosts local economy through labour and training initiative May 24, 2005, 03:11:21 PM
| We employ 342 Rochdale residents and have 100 local young people in apprenticeships and training!
Local people now provide more than 40% of the Raising the Standard workforce. This underlines the £28 million success of our ‘Local Labour’ and Training initiatives.
RBH has chosen the partnering approach as our preferred option to deliver our ‘Raising the Standard’ programme. A key element of ‘Raising the Standard’ has been a wholehearted commitment to ‘local involvement’.
From the outset this has meant that a proportion of the partner contractor’s labour forces had to include local people, with access to real training opportunities and to longterm job opportunities.
Our Technical Director, Eugene Wilson, recently addressed a Tenant Consultation ‘Progress and Planning’ meeting at Rochdale Town Hall and highlighted some remarkable statistics which underline the ongoing success of RBH’s commitment to ‘local involvement’.
“The MIP is RBH’s ‘Flagship Service’. Today, we employ 342 Rochdale residents and have more than 100 local young people in apprenticeships and training places.” said Mr Wilson. “14% of our workforce come from black and minority ethnic communities – more than twice the National average! We have twenty two women apprentices and trainees - in many different trades and professions - and thirteen of our employees are disabled - more than twice our official target.”
“The 96,000 ‘skills audit’ letters we sent out throughout Rochdale at the beginning had an overwhelming response and really set the trend for RBH’s success in creating ‘Local Labour’ and Training opportunities.”
“And with up to £25,000 being generated for every three local people employed, that means that RBH is helping to bring more than £28 million into the Rochdale economy every year!” |
